Crystallised windows
Windows that are not very air- or water tight, old windows, that is, get a new decoration as soon as the temperatures hit below 0. Nostalgic, romantic shapes cover the glass and it is oh so “grandma’s cottage when I was small”.
However, when you’re an adult and it’s your windows in question it makes you think. The truth is, this is bad news.
In Finland, nearly all the windows are double (at least, if not more). It makes sense, glass being a poor isolator. Only some simple summer cottages and winter-cold verandas have single glasses. But single glass is the kind that gets the best crystal spectacle.
My house has double windows but gets so much humidity between the windows that the humidity crystallises as soon as the temperatures freeze. I mean to do something about it one day, but until then, let it be. Why not? Ice flowers, as we call the ice forms, are obviously an endangered species. And the world does look quite interesting seen through some psychedelic forms.
